Dr. Bálint Jákli

Bálint Jákli was a Ph.D. student at IAPN from April 2013 to December 2016. His Ph.D. studies focused on the impacts of mineral plant nutrients, especially potassium, on water-use efficiency of crop plants.

 

Postdoctoral Bálint Jákli worked at the IAPN and later on at the Section of Plant Nutrition and Crop Physiology of Göttingen University. During this time he concentrated on modelling processes that limit photosynthesis in case of nutrient deficiency. Besides he developed remote sensing methods for just in time detection of mineral deficiencies in crop stands.

In his thesis, he studied the function of mineral plant nutrients, especially potassium, on water-use efficiency and drought tolerance of crop plants. In a multiscale approach, he evaluated the water-use efficiency of important crops – such as wheat, barley, sugar beet and sunflower – on various scales. Small-scale physiological processes during photosynthesis and transpiration were covered as well as large-scale processes on plant- and ecosystem-level.

Bálint Jákli graduated in geoecology at the University of Bayreuth in 2012. His focus was on environmental physics and he specialized on ecosystem fluxes of CO2 and water in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum.
