Prof. Dr. Klaus Dittert

Die wissenschaftliche Leitung des IAPN liegt in den Händen von Prof. Dr. Klaus Dittert. Er leitet auch die Abteilung Pflanzenernährung und Ertragsphysiologie am Department für Nutzpflanzenwissenschaften der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, der das IAPN räumlich eng angegliedert ist.

 

Forschen für die Praxis

Wachsende Ansprüche an die Qualität der landwirtschaftlichen Erzeugung und klimatische Veränderungen stellen die Forschung der Pflanzenernährung vor immer neue Aufgaben. Es besteht ein stetig wachsender Bedarf an Kulturpflanzen und Anbausystemen, die ungünstige Umweltbedingungen tolerieren, so dass mit ihnen auch in schwierigen Jahren und auf ertragsschwächeren Standorten gute Ernten erzielt werden. „Bisher wurden Probleme der Mineralstoffernährung von Pflanzen oft unter sonst guten Wachstumsbedingungen untersucht. Zukünftig müssen bei Fragen der Pflanzenernährung verstärkt weitere limitierende Faktoren wie Wasserknappheit oder Trocken- beziehungsweise Hitzestress berücksichtigt werden“, sagt Klaus Dittert.

„Forschungsansätze mit engem Bezug zur Ernährung landwirtschaftlicher Kulturen im Feld stehen seit Beginn meiner wissenschaftlichen Aktivitäten im Mittelpunkt meiner Interessen“, so Dittert. „Es ist mir ein wichtiges, persönliches Anliegen, durch Forschung, Lehre und Wissenstransfer dazu beizutragen, gesunde Nahrungsmittel nachhaltig und umweltverträglich zu erzeugen. Ein Schwerpunkt meiner Arbeiten liegt bei der Ernährung von Kulturpflanzen mit Stickstoff und dieser Aspekt wird auch weiterhin eine wichtige Säule meiner Forschungsarbeiten sein, doch im IAPN konnten wir das Spektrum der bearbeiteten Themenstellungen, Kulturpflanzen und der Anbaubedingungen deutlich vergrößern.“

Das IAPN befasst sich intensiv mit den Wechselwirkungen der pflanzlichen Nährstoffversorgung mit anderen Umwelteinflüssen. Ein besonders wichtiges Arbeitsgebiet ist der Zusammenhang zwischen Nährstoffversorgung und Wassernutzungseffizienz. „Wie können Pflanzen knappes Wasser effizient nutzen und mit weniger Wasser gut wachsen? Im IAPN haben wir es uns zur Aufgabe gemacht, das physiologische Grundlagenwissen entlang dieser Themenstellung eigenständig und im Verbund mit Kooperationspartnern zu erweitern und zu vertiefen.“

Das IAPN sieht Dittert auch als Forum, das sich bewusst der internationalen, anwendungsorientierten Forschung zuwendet. Das Institut bemüht sich darum, mit einer Reihe internationaler und nationaler Forschungseinrichtungen verschiedener Länder zu kooperieren. „Für die Verbreitung und die Vertiefung der gewonnenen Erkenntnisse ist die Multiplikatorwirkung dieser Einrichtungen unerlässlich. Im Idealfall setzen Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler, die am Göttinger IAPN studiert oder einen Forschungsaufenthalt absolviert haben, ihre Untersuchungen an ihrem Heimatinstitut fort und pflegen den Kontakt zum IAPN. So lernen wir voneinander und auch das Team im IAPN findet Anregungen und profitiert von einem gut funktionierenden internationalen Netzwerk der angewandten Pflanzenernährungsforschung und den in ihm arbeitenden Persönlichkeiten.“
