- Contributions to the 2nd Magnesium Symposium published in journal special edition

Summaries of contributions at the 2nd International Symposium on Magnesium have recently been published in a special edition of the Australian journal Crop & Pasture Science (Volume 66 Number 12 2015). The Symposium took place in November 2014 in São Paulo, Brazil. It was organized by the IAPN in conjunction with the University of São Paulo, Sabanci University (Turkey), the Center for Magnesium Education & Research (USA) and the Brazilian branch of the IPNI (International Plant Nutrition Institute).

The role of magnesium in crop production, nutrition and health

A key point during the symposium was the demonstrable contribution that the application of magnesium to soil can make to crop growth under difficult conditions like aluminum contamination or acid soil. Other topics discussed in São Paulo included the role of sufficient magnesium intake for human health, changes in magnesium supply in the global nutrition chain and fluctuations in the magnesium content of plant-based food.

Ismail Cakmak’s foreword to the special edition, “Magnesium in Crop Production, Food Quality and Human Health”, and the article “Role of magnesium fertilisers in agriculture: plant-soil continuum” by Mehmet Senbayram, Andreas Gransee, Verena Wahle and Heike Thiel, are available for free download. The remaining articles require a payment, but their abstracts can be downloaded free of charge.
