- 2nd International Symposium on Magnesium takes place 2014 in Brazil

From 4-6 November 2014 the 2nd International Symposium on Magnesium – Magnesium in Crop Production, Food Quality and Human Health – will take place in São Paulo, Brazil.

The first international symposium of the IAPN on the role of magnesium for improving the quality of food products and for human health was held at the University of Göttingen in May 2012, and drew more than 120 participants from 30 countries. The symposium was intended to kick off an intense interdisciplinary discourse by internationally leading magnesium researchers. Many contributions of the symposium have been published in a special issue of the renowned scientific journal “Plant and Soil” (July 2013).

A successful concept continues

The scientific success of the conference and the positive response of the participants to the interdisciplinary concept have moved the initiators to continue. “In order to meet the international and regional challenges and interests, we have decided for Brazil as venue and we are happy about the support by the University of São Paulo”, Prof. Ismail Cakmak of the Turkish Sabanci University explained. He is one of the organizers of the conference. “The symposium will cover international topics and at the same time focus on regional issues from one of the world’s most important arable regions.”

Besides the University of São Paulo and the Sabanci University, The Center for Magnesium Education & Research, USA, and the Institute of Applied Plant Nutrition are part of the organizing team. The team collaborates with the Brazilian office of the IPNI (International Plant Nutrition Institute).
