- Dr. Bálint Jákli carries on research at IAPN

More than 150 days passed, since January 2017 Dr. Bálint Jákli continues research at IAPN on a new project. He successfully finished his Ph.D. studies at the Institute of Applied Plant Nutrition to the end of last year.

He now works as a postdoc at IAPN. Currently he studies the effect of agricultural nutrient management on CO2 and water fluxes of crop stands. Furthermore, Jákli examines the impact of various major nutrients on the co-regulation of CO2 assimilation and stomatal conductance during photosynthesis. His aim is the model-based identification and quantification of processes that limit photosynthesis under nutrient deficiency.

Impact of mineral plant nutrients on water-use-efficiency

In his thesis, he studied the function of mineral plant nutrients, especially potassium, on water-use efficiency and drought tolerance of crop plants. In a multiscale approach, he evaluated the water-use efficiency of important crops – such as wheat, barley, sugar beet and sunflower – on various scales. Small-scale physiological processes during photosynthesis and transpiration were covered as well as large-scale processes on plant- and ecosystem-level.

Bálint Jákli graduated in geoecology at the University of Bayreuth in 2012. His focus was on environmental physics and he specialized on ecosystem fluxes of CO2 and water in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum.
